Is it really possible to clean your bike without using water?
I often thought about that question.
There were such products for bikes and cars from the 1990s but I never tried it before.
Recently, after going to ICE bike show 2016, the rep at White Lightning introduced me to their products and the Easy wash was the one product I have never tried before. The rep kindly offered a full bottle for me to take back to my workshop and try out.
White Lightning Easy Wash. Nice results.
The bottle was quite heavy and needed to be shaken well, then spray onto the bike as a thick white foam that should be left on the frame for 5-10 seconds then you wipe off with a clean rag and watch how sparkly clean your bike can be.
White Lightning assures me that their product can be used on all materials, such as aluminium, steel and carbon.
It can be sprayed onto all parts including discs. However with a new bottle the shaking well part proved to be harder than I thought, maybe because it is a new full bottle.
My recent post day rides, has rendered my bike with a nice layer of dirt and grit around my forks, bottom bracket shell, chain stays, etc.
After a good attempt at shaking I opened the top to spray, the white foam was not as thick as I expected but you can see it is fizzing way and lifting the grime and dirt off the bike.
Referring to these before/after photos, it can be clear the effect of the foam is to a dirty bike.
After leaving on the bike for 5 seconds, the White Lightning has clearly worked wonders. I grabbed my clean rag and wiped off the grime and grit that was left on my bike after 3 weeks of wintry riding.
The end result speaks for itself. My Genesis CdF was cleaned after just a few minutes of spray, wait then wipe off.
The foam is easy to use, and the wiping clean using a rag means this product can be used for those lacking time, space or a hose to clean their bike.
Not sure how good the product is for the environment, but there was no running or dripping to the floor, so most of it ends up in the clean rag, which can end up very dirty or gritty, so try to avoid scratching your own bike.
I like this product if I didn’t have a hose, the space or time to clean after a wet ride.
Easy to use…
