Since last winter I had planned a number of epic rides for 2018, only for them all to have failed one way or another. But before we ended up with our epic ride: Coventry to Holland, there were a number of events and rides being planned for this year. The first was London to Paris ride for Myton Hospice, was a friend who asked if I could join and be a riding mechanic for their group.
In September 24th 2017, I took part in the first Velo Birmingham 2017, UK. This is a 100 mile closed road cycle event set in the countryside around Birmingham area. Velo Birmingham is no normal sportive for cyclists
Winter is coming, time to test some tyres.
Winter is drawing in now. So I decided to test out the set of Vittoria Cross XN Pro, which I got since the summer.
We managed to organise 10 friends to get together for the Bloodwise bikeathon. We did the 52 miler on Sunday July 10th starting from Cannon Hill park heading south towards Stratford upon Avon.
Since helping out back at Yellow Jersey Delivery (YJD) seems to be working out well for me and for YJD, they have asked me to be regular postie for a few hours each week.
This works well for me as it gives me an avenue to ride during the day and still have time to manage eZo Cycle.
YJD asked me to fill in for an extra day today. I gladly accepted.
The weather this weekend was very mild for the season, we hit around 12-13°C, whereas in comparison, Hong Kong, this weekend, had a weird freezing wind that froze the plants in the hills. Causing traffic chaos with inexperienced drivers etc..
Anyway back to Coventry, UK. Weather was mild, even felt warm,
Post day 4, heading into the weekend the weather began to warm up a little, but also turned wetter. This morning’s ride turned out to be a long wet one. I don’t mind rain per say, but working as a postie meant letters needed to stay dry, which can be difficult as hands are either exposed (becoming wet and cold) or dry in a pair of weather proof gloves but letters still get wet from the wet glove outer. Plus the inconvenience of grip from the gloves means
Day 3, back to Coundon area. Relatively close to sorting office and also close to home. Today the weather is getting colder than previous days and definitely more frost on the ground. However it was to my luck that most of it was melting as I headed out from my office.
My Continental gatorskins have been doing a fine job of
Post day 2, had to go a little further afield today. Starts with a 3 mile ride out to the area of Foleshill in Coventry to start the round.
Got around 200 letters to deliver, a little more than day one.
The weather was extremely cold and bitter this morning. I had to wash my thermal T-shirt, so was effectively a warm layer out, but I put on a long sleeve
For most of this week I am riding for a local postal delivery service in Coventry, Yellow Jersey Delivery (YJD). I rode for them before in 2014 when I wanted to see if I can ride multiple days for over 20 miles daily. So I worked part time there.
There is no demand for a cycle courier service in the Coventry metropolis, mainly because Coventry isn’t really a metropolis, just a relatively bustling city. Not enough legal documents or contracts, photos or whatever cycle couriers tend to carry and deliver in large cities like London.
However, there seems to be a large amount of post that does go day to day around the city, local doctors, dentists, opticians, estate agents, and the like. Since 2013 YJD can deliver
